Tuesday Fashion: Preppy for Fall and FNO at J.McLaughlin!

9/7/2010

I have always had a very preppy style, but for some reason the fall months really bring out my inner prepster!  Maybe it's all those memories of packing up the car and driving up to boarding school, but once the fall hits, I always seem to go back to my preppy roots.  Corduroys, oxford shirts, quilted coats, riding boots, wool sweaters...they all are staples that I keep in heavy rotation for the weekends during the fall.

And being that I love all things preppy for fall, I am so excited to be attending the J.McLaughlin Fashion Night Out party this Friday, September 10th from 6:00pm-11:00pm!

If you have been shopping at J. McLaughlin as long as I have, you probably remember their classic ribbon skirt made entirely of grosgrain ribbons.  Well J.McLaughlin has brought back this fun and colorful design in both a skirt and a dress this fall, and they will be celebrating the return of the brand's Signature Ribbon Collection at their FNO party this Friday.  There will also be light refreshments, complimentary ribbon treats, and a gift bag for each guest!  Doesn't this sound like fun?!

I will be attending the party at the new J. McLaughlin store at 1004 Lexington Avenue which is on the corner of 72nd Street.  This beautiful drawing of the store is from the company's website, but if you would like to see the store in person, please stop by on Friday!  J.McLaughlin will also be having similar festivities at their stores in Brooklyn and Georgetown.

J. McLaughlin is one of my favorite brands because their clothes are impeccably tailored, and they never go out of style.  And even though this company's line of clothing can sometimes be priced at more than $200 an item,  I wanted to show you today that they also have a selection of mid range affordable pieces that anyone can mix into their wardrobe, to get the classic prepster look...without breaking the bank!

Here's a peak at how I would mix a few key J. McLaughlin pieces, like the Catalina Stripe Tee $98 and the Palm Spring Print Wool Scarf $75, with other affordable items from my closet to create a fun and updated preppy look for fall.

Would this outfit work well for your fall weekend routine?  I think this would be perfect for everything to running errands, shopping, or having lunch with friends because it is both fashionable, and functional!

And if you live in the NYC area, I hope to see you at the FNO party at J.McLaughlin on Friday night!

What a great outfit! It's preppy without being stodgy. Jenn- you do a great job of mixing nicer pieces with budget pieces.

I will see you at J Mac on Friday! The budget won't allow for a ribbon skirt, but that printed scarf will be my new favorite weekend piece by 6pm on Friday. Also, great find on the quilted coat. I'm ordering one now. Thanks Jenn!

That is a great tote for traveling or day trips! The quilted jacket is cute, Burberry-ish but a quarter of the price!
