Luxe Designer Perfumes For Less- Or How I Indulged in Chloe For $25

5/17/2012

I have been in the market for a new perfume recently, but as usual I have been hesitant to commit to a new scent out of fear that I will have to drop over a $100 on a perfume that I won't love a week later.

The classic Chloe perfume is what has been at the top of my wish list recently, but I didn't want to splurge on a whole bottle - well I was so excited when I found the rollerball version of Chloe for just $25 at Sephora last weekend!

I'm loving my new perfume so much that I will probably invest in a new bottle soon, but for now I'm reveling in the low price tag and the ability to "test drive" my new scent for just $25!

Buying rollerball perfumes is a great way to fit luxury perfume into your budget - here is just a sampling of some of the luxury perfumes that you can find at Sephora or your local department store.  All of these perfumes are $32 or less in the rollerball bottle!

Do you have a favorite scent that I should check out soon?

Toxin Free Nail Polish...A Great Beauty Alternative, Plus 50% off Julep Polish!

8/2/2011

For those of you have been pregnant before you know that it is unfortunately very easy to start to question every single thing you eat or beauty product you use during your nine months of pregnancy...

During my pregnancy I have had several people question whether I still get my nails done, and whether I believe this could be harmful to the baby.  I must admit that I have NOT given up my manicures and pedicures during the past nine months, and on the contrary I see them as one of the few luxuries I have left that allow me to pamper myself and feel good about my appearance while my waist line expands more and more every day!

Although my manis and pedis were business as usual at the beginning of my pregnancy, as I started to become more aware of the "pregnancy and polish debate," I figured it could not hurt to invest in a few "3 Free" or toxin free nail polishes just so I knew that I was using the safest product possible during my pregnancy.  "3 Free" polishes are nail products that do not contain the three major chemicals found in most polishes: toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate.  As I researched this topic more I found that there are several  eco friendly polish alternatives , all which do not contain these three common chemicals.

In my quest to find toxin free polish to indulge my mani/pedi addiction, here are a few of my favorite "3 Free" polishes that you can use knowing they are chemical free, but will also provide you with great looking nails for days!

butter london polish

Butter's motto is "we believe in colour not carcinogens."  This luxe nail polish company offers a variety of fun and fashionable colors.  At $14 a bottle this is not an inexpensive nail care option, but their colors are beautiful and the quality of this polish is great!

Zoya Polish

Zoya Natural Nail Polish is by far my favorite "3 Free" polish that I have tried in my quest for eco-friendly nails.  These polishes are reasonably priced at $8 a bottle, the website is super easy to use, and they offer an incredible selection of polishes to choose from.  Zoya also offers a wonderful chemical free nail polish remover that happily will not leave you choking for fresh air the next time you decide to take off your polish.  In my experience these polishes also lasted longer than any other polish I have tried in the past, including Essie and OPI.

Julep

Julep is a Seattle based hand, nail and foot care company that focuses on offering woman chemical free salon services in a both a calm and relaxing environment.  Their website offers a variety of polish and nail treatments, and a beautiful selection of bright and unique colors.  Julep polishes are also priced around $14 a bottle, but if you are interested in trying this colorful brand of polishes you can currently get a Julep nail set for 50% off at Daily Candy deals!

And if you like the Julep Spring Collection that I have featured here it is currently marked down from $42 to $35 dollars!

Scotch Naturals

I have yet to try this brand of Vegan, Paraben, Toxin, and Fragrance Free polish, but the packaging is absolutely beautiful, and the colors they offer are brilliant.  At $14.99 a bottle this is the most expensive of the "3 Free" Polishes I have featured today, but if you felt like splurging on yourself I would definitely recommend checking out this brand of natural but striking nail color.

Mattese Elite Nail Polish

I found this 3 Free brand of polish at Ricky's here in NYC.  This brand is the least expensive of all the polishes I am featuring today, and is a little under the radar.  They do not market themselves as a "3 Free" company, but every bottle states that their polish is free of these chemicals.  I just had my toes painted the neon pink color that you see here and I absolutely love it!  At $5.99 a bottle this is a great deal for eco friendly but fabulous nails!

Have you tried any of these polishes and if so do you have a favorite?

I would love to hear how you feel about making the switch from regular polish to the 3 Free variety!

Remembering Elizabeth Taylor

3/24/2011

The world lost one of it's most beautiful and iconic women yesterday, the always elegant and stylish Elizabeth Taylor.

In a world where they say blondes have more fun, Elizabeth Taylor paved the way for us brunettes, and proved that there is no denying the allure of a dark haired beauty...especially one as sultry and exotic as Ms. Taylor!

Here are just a few of my favorite photos of Elizabeth Taylor...

While Elizabeth Taylor had an undeniable natural beauty, the thing that really made her stand out in a crowd was her ability to intensify her good looks with a few key beauty products.  In honor of Elizabeth and her classic style, here are a few of my favorite beauty products that will help you get Elizabeth's sultry stand out style...

Picture
Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen, $22
Elizabeth Taylor was the queen of the cat eye, and this liquid eye liner is so easy to use that anyone (even me) can get a sexy updated look with one quick whip of this pen.
Picture
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free, $42
Elizabeth Taylor seemed to be blessed with breathtakingly flawless skin.  I use this moisturizer everyday and it evens out my skin no matter how bad my blemishes...it's incredible!
Picture
Bobbi Brown Sheer Color Cheek Tint, $22
On top of having perfect skin, Elizabeth Taylor always had just the right amount of glow!  I love this blush from Bobbi Brown to perk up my face...it gives me just the right amount of color without coming on too strong!
Picture
MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick, $14.50
Elizabeth Taylor was never afraid to have her lips pop with a bright red, orange, or pink lipstick.  While I usually stick to a more sheer gloss, I have found that these new sheer lipsticks by MAC are a great way to get a little bit of color without a harsh matte finish.
Picture
Tweezerman Slant Tweezers, $20
Have you ever seen more beautiful brows than those of Elizabeth Taylor's?  I won't trust my brows with any other tweezers than this classic pair by Tweezerman.  I have never found another pair that even comes close to this trusty staple!

Do you have any beauty products that you rely on for your signature style?

Elizabeth Taylor is a beauty and style icon that will never be forgotten, and whose style is so timeless that it will continue to inspire me for years to come.

Beauty Deal or Beauty Don't?

8/23/2010

Ok I admit it, I am a self professed beauty product junkie!  I am a sucker for a salesgirl telling me that "this cream will take away all of your crows feet in less than a week", or that "this mascara will make your lashes look a full 2 inches longer...literally!"

Being in love with beauty products does have it's perks though...like when you find that product that really does make you look as good as you feel, or cause you to get carded the next time you go stock up on prosecco!  But being a beauty babe can make you feel really bad, really fast, when you realize that you just blew $20 on a lip gloss that is so bad no one can look you in the eye, and you realize that your lips actually looked better before they were glossed!

So considering my love for beauty, but my disdain for "beauty product buyer's remorse," I am very intrigued by the new beauty website: www.birchbox.com.
Picture
According to the Birchbox website, this is how the company works:

"Every month, you'll receive four or more deluxe samples from high-end beauty brands, spanning makeup, skincare, hair products, fragrance and more. We promise no skimpy, messy foil packets...you'll also get access to the Haute Box (coming soon), your go-to source for useful product how-tos, insider finds, and video tutorials that will help you get the most out of your samples.

We offer three membership styles:
  • Yearly — $110 for 12 boxes, plus $10 off your first full-size product purchase
  • Monthly —$10 per box, cancel at any time
  • Gift —$110 for 12 boxes, plus $10 off their first full-size product purchase

Love your samples? Great! You can purchase full-size versions directly through Birchbox.com. All your purchases earn you points that can be used toward more products."

So what do you think?  I must admit that I am quite intrigued by the possibility of getting 4 new beauty samples a month, without the commitment of buying a full size bottle of each of these products!

I am tempted to sign up for this but is it worth $10 a month?

What do you think...is this a BEAUTY DEAL or a BEAUTY DON'T?!
